New Jersey Environmental Youth Training – February 8th, 2020
The New Jersey Environmental Youth Training (NJ EYT) was a daylong training event for youth environmental activists across the state to network with other young leaders and learn hands-on skills to help them pursue their activism more effectively. Training sessions were facilitated by leaders in NJ’s environmental sphere, like NJPIRG Students, Greening Forward, Food & Water Action, and Sierra Club.
7th Annual Empowered Young Environmentalists Summit – March 29th-30th, 2019
Greening Forward hosted its 7th annual youth summit, now named the Empowered Young Environmentalists Summit (EYES). EYES provides young people with specific tools for them to grow as leaders and help solve a variety of environmental problems, and gives them hands-on experience working with solutions to those problems during our workshop periods. This year’s summit featured an incredible speaker in young environmentalist Jade Sweeney, a group discussion focusing on some of the most pressing environmental problems facing humanity, and 8 different workshops that taught specific skills for change. Eco-Schools Leadership Initiative’s (ESLI) Environmental Education Conference – June 21st, 2018
Youth Council member Kayla Zhu traveled to Fairfax County, Virginia to table at the Eco-Schools Leadership Initiative’s Environmental Education conference. Held at the National Wildlife Federation’s headquarters, students at the conference learned effective environmental education games and skills that prepared them to educate kids in their community. Kayla was able to connect with many different organizations and passionate young people there.
6th Annual International Young Environmentalists Youth Summit (IYEYS) – April 13-14th, 2018
Over 60 young changemakers came together at the 6th annual IYEYS, a youth-driven capacity-building conference, for the opportunity to gain the skills they need to take their environmental campaigns to the next level. Young people (and the adults who support them) worked through workshops on issues across the environmental spectrum – such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, plastics free, transportation, water quality, and so much more.
One Hundred Miles Choosing to Lead Conference – January 13-14, 2018
Greening Forward attended the One Hundred Miles conference in Jekyll Island, Georgia. The conference brought together organizations, community leaders, teachers, and students interested in protecting Georgia’s coast. Youth leaders within the organization spoke about their personal stories, the foundation of Greening Forward, and shared the resources our organization has created to help young people get involved. All At Once Campaign – September 19 and 30, 2017
Our organization teamed up with the Jack Johnson 2017 Tour and All At Once, a social action network connecting nonprofits with people who want to become active in their local and world community. Our team tabled at Johnson’s concert in Georgia, and hosted a post game-day cleanup at the University of Georgia.
Green Schools Conference & Expo Student Summit – April 21-22, 2017
The 7th annual Green Schools Conference & Expo was held April 21-22, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia. Students, educators, administrators, business and community leaders, nonprofit partners, green building professionals and others came together to advance the shared mission of green schools for all within this generation. The Student Summit, presented by The Captain Planet Foundation, Greening Forward, and the United States Green Building Council’s Center for Green Schools, ran concurrently with the main sessions, while also providing a unique opportunity for students working towards greener schools to convene, learn, and share their work.
